About

Welcome to the MicroWorldArcive - Hopefuilly soon to be the most comprehensive collection of micrographs and microscope videos on the web! The MicroWorldArchive is more than just a gallery of pictures taken through a microscope. It is also a platform where microscopists, amateur and professionals alike, can share their creations and knowledge by publishing aritcles. Over the next years, I hope that this site will develop (with your help) into a valuable resource both for amateur microscopists but also for the general public. More specifically, I myself intend to photograph thousands of specimens during the upcoming years and to develop this site into one of the most complete photographic collections of the microscopic world. I know that this is a bold goal, one that can only be achieved collectively. This can include, but is not limited to:
  • Water life: Among other things, I want to produce a comprehensive photographic reference library of different Diatoms and other water life for easier identification.
  • Collection of pictures of different body tissues (histology).
  • Stereo microscopy and macro: I also want to give this area of microscopy a platform.
  • Collection of pictures of historical microscopes and slides.
  • Collection of articles on a variety of microscopy topics.
  • etc.

Who should benefit?

I hope that the site grows to a valuable resource for many people, especially amateur microscopists and people who love science and nature, but anyone who is in need of images from under the microscope. The published images can be used for identification purposes, for example, or for printed and online publications, provided that credit is given. If you find a water organism under the microscope, then you can check the image database of this website to find out what it could be. If you need a picture or a video of the microscopic world, then you can use the images (like in Wikipedia, for example). This site should also give Amateur Microscopists a possibility to share their knowledge by writing and publishing articles. I think that most importantly, MicroWorldArchive should prevent that the creations of microscopists - the pictures and their knoweldge - become lost to future generations. This can be done by building up an image and article library and by allowing other people to republish the images and videos, under the condition that the creator is credited.
